Introducing Headliner Durand Bernarr for People’s Pride PGH Presents: Swissvale Pride

Durand Bernarr, Singer. Songwriter. Producer. Skater. Actor. Host. Everybody’s favorite cousin on their daddy’s side?! With a sound that has been coined as “Gangster Musical Theatre” by Qveen Herby, Durand Bernarr is one-part Little Richard, one part Rick James, plus a heavy dash of powerhouse vocals and witty lyrical storytelling. The result is uniquely Durand - your favorite singer’s favorite singer!

Durand has had the opportunity to sit under, collaborate, and learn from some of music’s leading legends and contributors, such as Earth, Wind & Fire, The Internet, Anderson, Paak, Teedra Moses, Adam Blackstone, Tweet, comedian Rickey Smiley and Erykah Badu.

In 2016, Durand released his first EP, Sound Check, prompting Billboard to name him “an artist to know” and Lena Waithe to call Durand one of her favorite singers. In 2020, Durand made huge waves with his self-titled album _DUR&, which debuted at the #1 spot on the Apple Music R&B charts. Featuring collaborations with the likes of Ari Lennox, KAYTRANADA, and Anna Wise.

SisTers PGH, a nonprofit founded and operated by Black trans women and femmes, has been organizing People’s Pride PGH March and Festival every year since 2017. Each year, we march to include local nonprofits, school districts, unions, and community members who have long been neglected by the former Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh and other organizations in the area.

People’s Pride PGH 2023 March and Festival will take place June 25th, in Swissvale, home of the SisTers PGH offices, community center, and many other Black and brown TLGBQIA folks locally and in neighboring communities.

This year, our focus for the annual march and festival will be around improving housing access in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County as we return to the streets after three trying, devastating years of the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to impact primarily Black, brown, and other historically marginalized communities. We encourage our supporters to join us as this is the time to continue unifying and educating our county and city.

People's Pride PGH will meet at Noble Street Municipal Lot on Sunday, June 25 at 10:00 am. The march will begin at 11:00 am, taking us to the heart of Swissvale, where we will be met by community members and allies. (Please see route below)

Vendors and sponsors will have the opportunity to table along Dickson Elementary Field Perimeter.

People's Pride music festival will feature a special guest headliner, and 5 local artists that are sure to show us what being a TLGBQIA Pittsburgher is all about. Visitors will be immersed in not only musical talent but the arts as we feature TLGBQIA Liberation through many intersectional artists’ displays that will be interactive for all visitors. In tradition with People's Pride, we will also be offering a mini-grant to a local TLGBQIA group doing the work to ensure the demarginalization of TLGBQIA people of Pittsburgh/Allegheny County.

Join us for this historical moment and step towards inclusion within our local communities.
