Transgender Day Of Visibility 2024

SisTers PGH is a BLACK and TRANS-led nonprofit organization that serves the Transgender community of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Community Center

SisTers PGH's community center is a safe, brave, drop-in space for TGNC folk in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. In addition to a community hangout, we can provide access to clothing, toiletries, food, and computers, as well as referrals to vetted trans competent service providers, and intakes to our other programs as needed.

Monica Roberts Place

Monica Roberts Place is an affordable housing program offering one-bedroom apartment units for Black and Brown transgender individuals in need of safe and stable housing. More than just a place to live, Monica Roberts Place provides an affirming community where tenants can access resources, build financial stability, and work toward long-term independence.

Through programs like the NEST-EGG Savings Program, financial literacy workshops, and tenant support services, Monica Roberts Place is committed to empowering tenants beyond rental housing. Our goal is to equip residents with the tools and knowledge needed to transition into homeownership, creating pathways for financial independence and generational stability. By fostering economic empowerment and self-sufficiency, we are helping Black and Brown trans individuals move from renters to homeowners, ensuring lasting security and equity in housing.

Project T

Project T supports Black Trans women and girls in transitioning from unstable environments to secure, self-sufficient, and affirming communities. Through this initiative, participants gain access to resources that promote independence and stability while staying connected to the trans community via SisTers PGH and its programming. Project T also collaborates with SisTers Monica Roberts Place, which provides lower-rent housing options to assist participants in finding safe and affordable living arrangements.

SisTers PGH Rent/utility Assistance Program

SisTers’ PGH Rent and Utility Program is designed to support and ensure safe housing stability for BIPOC Transgender people living in Pittsburgh/Allegheny County.

The Home Equity Committee

The Home Equity Committee is dedicated to transitioning our members who have graduated from our Project T program into a place of permanent independence through home ownership.

In the entire course of a life, six months seems like a relatively short amount of time to bring about any real change, however, the six months afforded to me in The Project T Program by Sisters PGH saved and changed my life for the better in ways I could never imagine!

Prior to enrolling in Project T, my life was in complete shambles! I was literally homeless, and I had absolutely nobody to turn to for help.

The bright-eyed and goal-oriented young adult I once was had fallen on their last leg and was giving up hope for any type of productive future. I had witnessed my entire life go down the drain as my medical transition progressed. No matter how hard I seemed to try, my daily life struggles began to become almost more than I could bear.

Thankfully, Sisters PGH was the shining lighthouse I needed to help navigate my way out of my storm! Their method was simple - shelter + support = success - and that’s exactly what I needed!

The day I entered the Project T house for the first time was the first day I had been treated like a human in over two years! I couldn’t believe I had my own room, a couch to sit on after work, access to a computer, and a kitchen to prepare my own meals in! Project T took an immense burden off of my back by providing me with a stable living environment so I could focus on my health, finding employment, and securing permanent housing.

Today, six months later, I am living proof that the formula Sisters PGH uses for properly helping struggling Trans individuals works wonders! Not only have I secured permanent housing and a well paying job, I have actually started to smile and enjoy life again! Without Sisters PGH, I’m not sure where I would be today. I honestly may have given up, but I’m so thankful I didn’t!

I will forever be grateful for the opportunity I had to participate and elevate my life in this one-of-a-kind program! I highly suggest Project T to any Trans individual who is willing to work with Sisters PGH to get their life back on track!
